The NEDS 2022 conference will take place in Oslo in September. This is my final letter before we take a break in planning and preparations. Summer is here and it’s time to relax and take time to reflect and gather energy for upcoming challenges.

The conference received a good number of high-quality abstracts and the scientific committee have now assessed and divided them in sessions. The full program is available on our conference webpage NEDSconference.

We will start the conference on Wednesday September 7th with a keynote by Professor Bryn Austin on Accelerating Progress in Prevention of Eating Disorders. The first lunch will include a poster session. In the afternoon we can look forward to scientific paper presentations on sports and exercise, somatic challenges, and treatment challenges. The first day will end with a welcome reception at the City hall, but before that we will still have time for thematic sessions on guided physical exercise, somatic health, and obesity and BED. The NEDS general assembly is arranged between the thematic sessions and the City hall reception. The agenda for the general assembly will be posted online in advance on www.neds.nu

The second day of the conference starts with a keynote by Dr. Karianne Vrabel on Moving beyond pre and post – a clinical approach. After the keynote we will have workshops on evidence-based relationships, family therapy, and self-compassion. There will be a scientific paper session with research on treatment, diagnostics and epidemiology, and body image. After lunch you will have the opportunity to learn more about transgender issues, mentalization based therapy, and binge-eating disorder. In the last session in the afternoon we will get a presentation from the Academy for Eating Disorders followed by a keynote by Professor Eric Stice on Effective and Efficacious Eating Disorder Prevention Programs. The second day ends with a gala dinner!

The last day of the conference will focus on workshops. We can offer four regular workshops on themes, such as psychotherapy, temperament-based therapy, improving training and support for professionals, and weight, stigma and health. In addition to these we offer a workshop on friluftsliv and eating disorders. In accordance with the content, the workshop is arranged outside. The regular program ends with a keynote by Professor Anna Keski-Rahkonen on Hope for Eating Disorders? Building successful long-term outcomes. After lunch we hope that all young (freely interpreted, but mostly current and future PhD students and recent post docs) researchers will join us for a session to discuss research related issues and the possible formation of a Nordic network for young researchers; see pre-registration link here.
